Bandits Kill 11 in Katsina Village Attack on April 26

On April 26, 2026, at approximately 2:40 PM, armed assailants attacked Gurbi Village in the Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, resulting in the deaths of 11 people and injuries to two others. The attack was confirmed by a statement from the Katsina State Police Command, issued by DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu.

The assailants opened fire on residents, prompting a distress call that led to a joint security response involving police and military forces. The attackers fled the scene as security personnel arrived.

The state Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar Fage, has directed an intensification of intelligence-led patrols and collaboration with community stakeholders to prevent further incidents. The police have also urged the public to remain calm and provide information to assist ongoing investigations.

The injured victims were evacuated to a nearby hospital for medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were released to their families for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
