Bandits Kill 11 in Katsina Village Attack on April 26

On April 26, 2026, at approximately 2:40 PM, armed assailants attacked Gurbi Village in the Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, resulting in the deaths of 11 individuals and injuries to two others. The incident was confirmed by the Katsina State Police Command through a statement issued by the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu.

Following the attack, a joint security team, including police and military personnel, was promptly mobilized to the scene, but the assailants had already fled. The State Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar Fage, has directed the intensification of intelligence-led patrols and collaboration with community stakeholders to prevent further attacks.

The police have also called on the public to remain calm and assist with information to aid ongoing investigations and the arrest and prosecution of the suspects. The injured victims were evacuated to a nearby hospital for medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were released to their families for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
