Bauchi Governor Appeals for Security Intervention Amid Crisis

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has expressed alarm over the increasing insecurity in the state, particularly due to banditry in ungoverned spaces. During an emergency meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday, he appealed to President Bola Tinubu for urgent security intervention following renewed attacks in the Alkaleri Local Government Area.

Governor Mohammed warned that the situation could spiral into a humanitarian crisis if not swiftly contained. He described how bandits have become emboldened, taking over ungoverned areas, and noted that existing state security measures are overwhelmed.

Residents are reportedly fleeing to neighboring states due to fear and paranoia, especially during the ongoing Ramadan period. The governor also mentioned plans for a security summit involving affected states to address the situation.

He dismissed speculation regarding his political alignment, affirming his commitment to the People's Democratic Party while seeking federal support to combat insecurity.
