Bandits Attack Emir's Palace, Kidnap Family in Kwara

In the early hours of Sunday, bandits invaded the ancient town of Yashikira in Baruten Local Government Area, Kwara State, setting the Emir's palace ablaze and abducting the Emir's wife and children. The attack occurred while residents were asleep, and the assailants launched a surprise assault, overpowering local vigilante operatives without resistance.

Witnesses reported that the gunmen first attacked the palace, setting parts of the building on fire before kidnapping multiple victims, including women and children. The incident left the community in confusion, with families searching for missing relatives as the assailants fled into the bush with several captives.

Residents expressed their growing insecurity, alleging that Baruten LGA has repeatedly suffered attacks from armed groups due to its porous border routes. Despite warnings about increasing bandit activity, security agencies have been accused of failing to provide adequate protection.

A senior police officer from the Baruten Division confirmed that a manhunt for the suspects has commenced, urging residents to remain calm as efforts are made to rescue the victims.
