Bandits Kill 11 in Katsina State Reprisal Attack

On May 2, 2026, a violent incident in Katsina State resulted in the deaths of 11 residents during a reprisal attack by bandits. The Katsina State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, through its commissioner Nasiru Mu Azu, confirmed the incident and expressed condolences to the victims' families.

The violence began when intelligence reports indicated that a notorious bandit leader, identified as Mohammadu Fulani, was leading armed men toward Kei Bridge in Kankia Local Government Area with suspected criminal intent. Upon receiving this information, the local police mobilized a joint security team that engaged the bandits, neutralizing several and recovering eight motorcycles and rustled cattle.

Following this, the bandits regrouped and launched a fresh attack on Gwalgoro Village in Gyaza Kunduru Ward, resulting in the fatalities. The state government condemned the attack as a cowardly assault on innocent civilians and urged residents to remain vigilant while reaffirming its commitment to addressing insecurity and safeguarding lives and property across the state.
