Bandits Kill 16 Vigilantes, Abduct 42 Residents in Recent Niger Attacks

In recent attacks in Niger State, bandits killed 16 vigilantes and abducted 42 residents in Mashegu Local Government Area. The attacks occurred between November 9 and November 13, 2025, with residents fleeing to neighboring communities for safety.

The vigilantes engaged in gun duels with the bandits, resulting in casualties on both sides. Isah Ibrahim Bokuta, the chairman of Mashegu LGA, described the fallen vigilantes as heroes who sacrificed their lives to defend the community.

The Niger State Police Command spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incidents.
