Bandits Kill Five, Abduct Many in Sokoto Raids

In a series of coordinated midnight attacks on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, bandits killed at least five individuals and abducted several others in Sokoto State, specifically targeting three communities within the Sabon Birni Local Government Area. The attacks began around 11:00 PM and continued until midnight, affecting Sabon Birni town, Dan Aduwa, and Kwaren Gamba.

Gunmen reportedly entered the Sabon Hegi area, causing panic among residents. Among the deceased were Abba Sani and Bala Mai Laya, while a visually impaired man was among those abducted.

The victims were traveling to Moriki in Zamfara State for business. In total, five individuals were killed, and 22 others were abducted, including two bridesmaids during a wedding celebration.

The Sokoto State Police Command, represented by spokesperson DSP Ahmad Rufai, had not received full details of the incidents at the time of the report. Local lawmaker Aminu Boza confirmed the attacks but did not provide casualty figures.
