Bandits Kill Police Officer, Civilians in Sokoto Attack

On Monday, a police officer named Hussaini Manyu and two civilians, including an elderly resident Bala Wakili, were killed during an attack by suspected Lakurawa militants in Girkau community, Kebbe Local Government Area, Sokoto State. The attackers invaded the village in large numbers, firing indiscriminately and causing panic among residents.

They also rustled an unspecified number of cattle and set ablaze two operational vehicles belonging to the Nigeria Police Force and the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps. A young herder was shot dead for refusing to surrender his cattle.

A local resident reported that security operatives responded to a distress call and engaged the attackers, forcing them to retreat. DSP Ahmed Rufai, spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, confirmed the attack and stated that efforts to track down the fleeing suspects have intensified.

Community leaders described the incident as one of the deadliest in recent times, urging for increased security measures in vulnerable areas.
