Police Officer and Civilians Killed in Sokoto Attack

On Monday, a deadly attack by Lakurawa militants occurred in Girkau, Kebbe Local Government Area, Sokoto State, resulting in the deaths of a police officer, Hussaini Manyu, and two civilians, an elderly resident named Bala Wakili and a young herder. The assailants opened fire indiscriminately on security personnel and villagers, leading to injuries among several others and the rustling of an unspecified number of cattle.

The attackers also set ablaze two security vehicles belonging to the Nigeria Police Force and the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps. Ahmed Rufai, the spokesman for the Sokoto State Police Command, confirmed the incident and stated that the command had received a distress call and deployed operatives who engaged the attackers in a gun battle, successfully repelling them.

Community leaders expressed their heartbreak over the incident, describing it as one of the worst attacks in recent months and highlighting the ongoing fear among residents due to the frequency of such attacks.
