Police Update on NURTW Clash in Abuja: Arrests Made

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command addressed the recent violent clash involving members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) at their headquarters in Garki II, Abuja. The police denied claims circulating on social media that officers shot a union member during the incident.

The command described these reports as false and misleading. The clash occurred when approximately 300 armed individuals, equipped with cutlasses, bottles, and bows and arrows, stormed the NURTW headquarters on Sapel Street around 7 AM.

Following a distress call, police swiftly intervened, arresting identified suspects including Sularman Musa, Nasiru Ibrahim, Alhaji Sadisu Musa, Dalha Suleiman, Abdullahi Garba, and Sahe Fojebi Ibikunl Baruwa, who were later arraigned in Magistrate Court 1, Wuse Zone 2. Victims sustained severe machete wounds and were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

The police confirmed that no firearms were discharged during the operation and urged residents to report any suspicious activities to ensure public safety.
