NURTW Chairmen Pledge Loyalty to Akinsanya Amid Tensions

On Thursday, state chairmen of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) pledged their loyalty to the leadership of Musiliu Akinsanya. This endorsement occurred during a meeting at the union's national headquarters, amidst renewed tensions regarding leadership.

Kayod Agbeyangi, the union's general secretary, accused a rival faction led by Tajudeen Baruwa of orchestrating violence and damaging the national secretariat in August 2023. Agbeyangi detailed the events surrounding these allegations, including ongoing court cases related to the faction's actions.

The leadership of the NURTW insists on adhering to due process and the rule of law, urging members to rely on verified records as legal battles continue. The union has faced multiple legal challenges since a controversial delegate conference in 2023, which allegedly disenfranchised members and disregarded court orders.
