Baruwa Takes Control of NURTW Amid Legal Battles

Tajudeen Baruwa has officially taken control of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) secretariat in Abuja, succeeding Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo. This transition follows a series of court rulings that reshaped the union's power structure, with Baruwa's leadership being affirmed by both a lower court and an appeal court.

The appeal court, in its judgment delivered on November 8, 2024, upheld the earlier ruling from March 11, 2024, confirming Baruwa as the legitimate president of the NURTW. The court also awarded N100,000 in costs against the appellants, who were loyalists of Akinsanya.

Despite Baruwa's legal victories, there have been tensions, including a refusal by Suleiman Musa, the General Secretary, to vacate the premises. Baruwa has expressed a commitment to a peaceful transition and adherence to the law, aiming to avoid further conflict within the union.
