Senate's Commitment to Healthcare Reform in Nigeria

Aniekan Bassey, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Diaspora, reaffirmed the 10th Senate's commitment to strengthening Nigeria's healthcare system through legislative reforms aimed at improving the quality and access to regulated health services across the country. This declaration was made during a public hearing on the healthcare bill, which was formally opened by Bassey and attended by key stakeholders, including the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr.

Iziak Adekunle Salako. Bassey emphasized that the 10th Senate is focused on enacting people-oriented legislation to bridge the gap between policy formulation and the healthcare needs of ordinary Nigerians.

He outlined two landmark bills: the Universal Teaching Hospital Act Amendment Bill, which seeks to modernize teaching hospitals and enhance service delivery, and the National Health Facility Regulatory Agency Bill, aimed at establishing a regulatory framework to enforce high professional standards and ensure patient safety across public and private healthcare facilities nationwide.
