Bauchi First Lady Advocates Support Against Gender Violence

Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed, the First Lady of Bauchi State and chairperson of the Bauchi State Action Committee on Gender-Based Violence, urged for collective support to eradicate gender-based violence (GBV) during a media chat. She highlighted the importance of involving families, traditional rulers, and the media in the fight against this menace.

The committee, established in April 2020, primarily focuses on rape-related offenses and includes representatives from various sectors such as the ministries of justice and women affairs, police, and civil society groups. Hajiya Aisha announced plans to launch outreach programs and awareness campaigns in the coming month to sensitize citizens and prevent the escalation of GBV cases.

The committee aims to extend its sensitization efforts to 20 local government areas and has restructured into four sub-committees to enhance its responsiveness. Hajiya Aisha acknowledged the media's role in advocacy and public enlightenment, emphasizing the need for collaboration with NGOs to support survivors and ensure justice.
