Bauchi State Commended for Commitment to Youth Development

During the 2026 World Population Day celebration held at the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Conference Centre in Bauchi State, Muriel Mafico, the UNFPA representative in Nigeria, commended the state government for its unwavering commitment to advancing population development programs in partnership with UNFPA. Mafico reaffirmed UNFPA's dedication to collaborating with the state government to implement strategic programs that will harness the demographic dividend of the state's youth population.

Ms. Dien Keita, the UNFPA Executive Director, highlighted findings from a recent demographic survey that revealed young people's aspirations and challenges, including economic constraints affecting their family planning choices. The event featured discussions on the need for supportive policies that empower young people to realize their hopes and aspirations for the future.

Mafico emphasized the importance of collaboration among various stakeholders, including civil society organizations and traditional leaders, to promote sustainable development and create opportunities for every young person.
