Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed to Join APC on Tuesday

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed is anticipated to defect from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, following a deal with APC leader Bola Tinubu. This decision comes after extensive negotiations involving key figures within the APC, which are believed to have concluded last week.

The defect is seen as a significant political development in Bauchi State, potentially strengthening the APC's numerical advantage nationwide ahead of the 2027 general elections. Bala Mohammed, who currently serves as the chairman of the PDP Governors' Forum, is a prominent voice within the opposition party.

Reports indicate that negotiations included discussions on power-sharing arrangements, allowing Mohammed's political camp to control a significant portion of the APC's structure in Bauchi, with a proposed 60-40 power share formula. However, negotiations have stalled over Mohammed's demand for the authority to nominate his successor.

Despite unresolved issues, preparations for the defection ceremony are ongoing, with party leaders and stakeholders expected to attend.
