Bauchi PDP Faction Elects New Chairman Amid Crisis

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State has deepened its internal crisis following a congress held on March 15, 2026, where a faction loyal to Governor Wike elected Barrister Bashir Tahir Misau as the new chairman. The congress, which was conducted peacefully and monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission, resulted in a new state executive committee being formed through a consensus arrangement among party stakeholders.

Mohammed Haruna, the outgoing chairman of the PDP caretaker committee, disclosed the outcomes of the congress, emphasizing the need for unity within the party. Despite the peaceful conduct, the emergence of this new leadership has intensified the existing tensions within the party, as it has created two parallel leadership structures.

This division is expected to affect the party's performance in the upcoming general elections, as the faction loyal to Sama Ila Adamu Burga remains recognized as the authentic state chairman.
