PDP Crisis Deepens in Bauchi with New Leadership Election

The political crisis within the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State escalated as a faction loyal to Nyesom Wike elected Ibrahim Kassim as the new state chairman during a congress held over the weekend. This congress produced a new state executive committee through a consensus arrangement agreed upon by party stakeholders.

Moham Jungudo, the outgoing chairman of the Bauchi State PDP caretaker committee, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday. The congress was monitored by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and attended by party leaders across the state.

The new leadership includes Barrister Bashir Tahir as deputy chairman and other elected officials such as Muktar Abdullahi and Umar Abdulkadir Sarki in various vice-chairman roles. This development reflects the ongoing divisions within the PDP in Bauchi, as another faction recognizes Bala Mohammed as the state chairman, resulting in two parallel leadership structures.
