Wike Faction Elects Parallel Chairman in Plateau PDP Crisis

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State is experiencing significant internal strife as a faction led by Nyesom Wike held a congress on Tuesday, electing Peter Tongshep as a parallel chairman. This event occurred on October 25, 2025, amidst tight security, with heavy deployment of personnel to ensure order.

The congress was supervised by a seven-member delegation from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Concurrently, a rival faction loyal to Tanimu Turaki conducted its own congress, electing Chief Raymond Dabo as the new state chairman along with a 38-member state executive committee.

Dr. Samaila Rukuba, the spokesman for Wike's faction, described their congress as peaceful and orderly, emphasizing the need for PDP members in Plateau to focus on reconciliation and recovery ahead of the 2027 general elections.
