APC Chieftain Calls for Probe into Bayelsa Congress Procedures

Hon. Joseph Maciv, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, has called on Governor Douye Diri to investigate the procedures surrounding the party's congresses.

In a statement issued on Sunday, February 15, 2025, Maciv expressed strong concerns regarding the potential hijacking and manipulation of the congress process, particularly in Ward 4 of the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area. He highlighted that various committees appointed to oversee the local government area congresses may have been influenced by political ambitions, undermining the democratic process.

Maciv noted that no stakeholder meetings had been held prior to the congress, which he deemed essential for transparency. He emphasized the need for unity within the party and urged the governor to introduce a system that ensures fair representation and decision-making, especially in light of complaints regarding the ongoing situation in the local government council.
