Crisis Anticipated in Bayelsa Ahead of APC Ward Congress

A looming crisis is expected in Bayelsa as the All Progressives Congress (APC) prepares for its ward congresses scheduled for February 18, 2026. Allegations have surfaced that the party is not adhering to consensus arrangements, with accusations directed at state governor Douye Diri, who defected from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in October.

Timipre Sylva, a former governor and a key figure in the APC, claims that the current leadership is favoring defectors, which could undermine party unity. Stakeholders from the Bomo clan in the Southern Ijaw local government area have rejected the arrangements for the congress, labeling them as orchestrated by a few individuals without broader consent.

Chief Elder Dominic Richard Bafagha and Chief Jame Jonah Alu, leaders of the Bomo Mandate Forum, criticized the resolutions as a "kangaroo arrangement." The situation reflects ongoing tensions within the APC as it seeks to solidify its position ahead of the congress.
