Bayelsa, Bauchi Win at National School Volleyball Championships

Bayelsa and Bauchi states claimed victory at the 2nd National School Volleyball Championships, which took place over four days at the National Institute for Sports inside the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos. The tournament featured 28 teams, comprising 10 boys' and eight girls' squads from various states, including Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, and Adamawa.

The event was organized by the Nigeria School Sport Federation (NSSF) in partnership with the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) and supported by the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC). In the girls' final, Bayelsa triumphed over Lagos with a score of 2-1, winning the first set 25-14, losing the second 25-19, and clinching the title with a narrow 15-12 victory in the deciding set.

In the boys' category, Bauchi defeated Lagos 2-1, winning the first set 25-21, losing the second 25-12, and securing the championship with a 15-9 win in the final set. Adamawa and Oyo secured bronze in the boys' category, while Ekiti and Ogun took third place in the girls' category.

The closing ceremony was attended by NOC President Habu Gummel, who praised the NSSF's commitment to grassroots sports and pledged continued support. Players selected from the championship will represent Nigeria at the International School Sport Federation (ISF) World School Volleyball Championship scheduled for July 1-10 in China.
