Bayelsa State Local Government Elections Set for April 2027

The Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission (BYSIEC), chaired by Peter Singabel, has announced that local government elections will take place on April 3, 2027. This decision was disclosed during a stakeholders' meeting held in Yenagoa, the state capital.

The commission assured that the elections would be free, fair, and credible, in compliance with Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act 2026. A timeline for the electoral process has been established, with political parties required to register their preferred candidates for chairmanship and councillorship positions by March 23, 2026.

The collection of nomination forms (F001 and F002) will occur from August 29 to September 9, 2026. Campaigns will commence on November 3, 2026, and conclude by midnight on April 1, 2027.

The commission will also conduct voter education sessions from January 5 to January 12, 2027, and publish the list of nominated candidates on January 3, 2027.
