Bayelsa to Inaugurate Major Power and Infrastructure Projects

Bayelsa State is preparing to inaugurate several significant infrastructure projects, including a 60-megawatt gas-fired power plant, a 630-meter bridge, and a dual carriage road. Governor Douye Diri disclosed these plans during a monthly praise night at King Glory Chapel in Yenagoa.

The power plant, located in Elebel, Ogbia Local Government Area, is currently 99% complete and is expected to undergo a test run before its inauguration by President Bola Tinubu, anticipated in April 2026. This project aims to alleviate the frequent power outages experienced in the state, which currently receives a maximum of 24 megawatts from the national grid.

The bridge, which will connect Angiama and Oporoma across the Nun River, was initially groundbreaking by former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. The dual carriage road will link Yenagoa to Gbarantoru and is part of a broader road project expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

Governor Diri urged the political class to maintain peace during the upcoming political activities in the country.
