Ogun BCPG Advocates Stricter Building Standards for Safety

The Building Collapse Prevention Guild (BCPG), Ogun State Chapter, has urged for stricter compliance with building regulations and improved construction monitoring to combat unsafe building practices that threaten lives and property. This call was made during a Joint Building Safety Awareness Programme organized in collaboration with the Ogun State Building Production Management Authority (OGBPMA) at Oronna Hall, Ilaro.
The event focused on the theme “Building Safe, Compliant and Quality Structures” and gathered various stakeholders, including built-environment professionals, developers, artisans, and community representatives. Builder Adedayo Ogunsola, FNIOB, Chairman of BCPG, emphasized the need for professional vigilance and regulatory oversight to prevent building collapses.
He noted that the Guild consists of registered professionals from seven disciplines, enabling it to monitor construction effectively and promote adherence to safety standards. Dr. Olubenga Shoyemi, Coordinator of BCPG Yewa-Ilaro Cell, highlighted the cell's achievements in providing free technical guidance to homeowners in the informal sector.
