Ogun State Town Planners Warn of Development Challenges

TPL Rauf Adebanjo, the Chairman of the Association of Town Planning Consultants of Nigeria (ATOPCON) Ogun State Branch, raised concerns about uncoordinated development in Ogun State during the association’s 2026 Annual General Meeting held in Abeokuta. He highlighted the mounting development pressure along major growth corridors, warning that without proper management, this could lead to significant challenges in infrastructure, housing, transportation, environmental management, land-use conversion, and development control.

Adebanjo urged members to enhance their knowledge and utilize modern planning tools, such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and climate-resilient approaches. TPL Olatunji Odunlami, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, affirmed the government's commitment to ensuring the relevance of town planning consultants in the development process.

He announced the review of the 2022 Physical Planning and Development Law and the introduction of the Ogun State Building and Construction Code 2025 to promote sustainable structures and prevent issues like building collapse and flooding.
