Bello Turji: Has Wanted Bandit Leader Finally Surrendered? Defence Headquarters Speaks

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has refuted claims that wanted bandit leader, Bello Turji, surrendered to the military. Turji, accused of masterminding numerous attacks in Zamfara and Sokoto states, reportedly released 32 kidnap victims following a peace initiative led by an Islamic cleric in Zamfara.

The DHQ's Director of Defence Media Operations, Markus Kangye, dismissed the surrender reports during a briefing in Abuja. The military also announced the elimination of Turji's close ally, Aminu Kanawa, and several key commanders.

Turji's terror activities led to the recruitment of hundreds of Civilian Joint Task Force members in Zamfara to combat banditry. The bandits, led by Turji, have been imposing levies on residents and causing casualties.

The security forces have neutralized several of Turji's associates in a bid to restore peace in the region.
