Akoh Critiques Token Politics Ahead of Benue 2027 Elections

Dickson Akoh, an elder statesman from Idoma, condemned the practice of distributing rice and salt as a form of token politics in Benue South, asserting that it does not equate to true democracy. He warned voters to reject this transactional approach as they prepare for the 2027 general elections.

Akoh highlighted the failure of democratic contracts in the region and called for a redefinition of what democratic dividends should entail, emphasizing the need for tangible development such as improved infrastructure, healthcare, and education. He cautioned against politicians who only engage with the electorate during election periods and urged voters to prioritize candidates with a proven track record of service.

Akoh encouraged unity among the people of Benue South across party lines to demand credible leadership and accountability from their representatives, stressing that the greatest threat to progress is internal division and selfishness.
