Benue Governor Grants Clemency, Immortalizes Gen Murtala at State's 50th Anniversary

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia celebrated the state's 50th anniversary by granting clemency to 14 inmates and immortalizing former military head of state, Gen Murtala Muham, for his role in creating Benue State. During a statewide broadcast, Alia announced the reduction of prison sentences for the inmates, including the renaming of a print and publishing corporation after late veteran journalist Chief Dan Agbes.

The governor also revealed plans to honor deceased prominent Benue indigenes such as Wanteregh Unongo, Isaac Shaahu, Suemo Chia, Atom Kpera, and Tashaku Oradi as part of initiatives to preserve the state's history and recognize significant contributors to its development.
