Alia Promises Peace and Security in Sankera Region

Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, the Governor of Benue State, has expressed commitment to restoring peace in the Sankera region, which has faced repeated security challenges in recent years. During a visit to the Ukum Local Government Secretariat, he assured residents that peace would return and disclosed plans to establish a tactical operation base for the Nigerian Army in the area to enable rapid response to intelligence-led operations against terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry.

Governor Alia appealed to individuals involved in criminal activities to surrender and embrace peace, urging security agencies to intensify patrols in high crime rate areas. He acknowledged the challenges faced during his earlier visit to Ukum following a coordinated attack in April 2025.

Alia also promised to commence immediate reconstruction of the Ukum Local Government Secretariat, which was destroyed by fire during his visit. He received commendations from former Governor Gabriel Suswam for his approach to tackling insecurity and emphasized the need for community support in restoring peace and stability in Sankera.
