Survivors Share Harrowing Tales from Benue Attack

On March 12, a brutal attack by armed men in a village within Kwand Local Government, Benue State, resulted in the deaths of 12 individuals and injuries to others. Survivors, including Nguumbur Tarvershima, recounted their harrowing experiences at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) in Makurdi.

Tarvershima described being shot in the leg while trying to sleep at 10 PM, noticing movements followed by gunfire. She fell off her bed, believed she was dead, and crawled into the bush to hide, urging her children to run to safety.

Another victim, Terfa Ahemb, is currently receiving care for injuries sustained during the attack, which affected six family members, including his mother, wife, and three children. The community is left in despair, facing ongoing security threats, particularly as the river Katsina Ala is dry, allowing attackers to cross easily.
