Benue Community Calls for Urgent Security Action Amid Attacks

Residents of Rijo Community in Ado Local Government Area, Benue State, have expressed alarm over renewed attacks and kidnappings that have instilled fear in the area. A press statement signed by John Ekuem, the chairman of the Rijo Community, revealed that armed groups believed to have fled from neighboring areas are conducting frequent raids, particularly around Unwej Village.

The situation has worsened, with two men currently missing, raising concerns of abduction. The insecurity has forced local primary schools to shut down, as parents are unwilling to risk sending their children through unsafe routes.

Community members have reported the destruction of farmland, including cassava and yam crops, which poses a serious threat to food supply and the livelihoods of families dependent on farming. They have called on the Benue State Governor, Rev.

Fr. Hyacinth Alia, and security agencies to take urgent action to prevent further attacks and restore safety in the area.

The community specifically requests the immediate deployment of security personnel to dislodge armed groups and establish a permanent security presence.
