Police Investigate Obstruction of Peter Obi’s Convoy

The Benue State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the obstruction of Peter Obi’s convoy in Makurdi, Benue State Capital. Police Commissioner Cletus Nwadiogbu confirmed that the police were aware of Obi's movement and had deployed personnel for security, as the visit was intended to be humanitarian, not a campaign.

However, upon his arrival, youths blocked the road, preventing him from proceeding to Yelwata in Guma Local Government Area, where he was to meet residents affected by a deadly attack in June 2025. Nwadiogbu stated that the police intervened but emphasized the need to understand why the youths obstructed Obi.

The incident has revealed a disagreement between the police and the Benue State Government regarding knowledge of Obi's visit, with Governor Hyacinth Alia’s Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, claiming they were unaware of the visit until reports emerged about the blockade. Tersoo denied that the youths were sponsored by the state government, asserting that Obi posed no threat to the governor.
