Benue PDP Chieftain Survives Assassination Attempt

Bemgba Iortyom, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on Friday night, just hours after his appointment was announced. The incident occurred in Makurdi, where Iortyom's vehicle, a Peugeot 406 saloon, was set ablaze by unidentified hoodlums.

The attack happened around 8 PM as Iortyom was leaving a location along Georg Akum Central. He managed to escape the attack by quickly exiting his car, which the assailants attempted to ignite with fuel.

Iortyom described the situation as a reflection of the rising political tension in the state. He previously served two terms as the party's state public secretary and called on party stakeholders to support his new responsibilities.

The Benue State Police Command is currently investigating the matter, which highlights concerns about security and the safety of citizens in the region.
