BSUTH Launches Advanced Robotic Molecular Laboratory

The Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) in Makurdi has unveiled a state-of-the-art robotic Molecular Laboratory designed to improve disease diagnosis accuracy and speed. This initiative is part of Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia's significant investments in the tertiary health institution, aimed at reducing the costs and time associated with seeking advanced healthcare.

Dr. Izuchukwu Ebiega, a consultant at BSUTH, stated that the laboratory utilizes Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technology, recognized globally for its precision in disease identification. The facility includes automated platforms, m2000 and RT2000, which provide rapid results with minimal human error.

Previously, tests for Hepatitis B and C were sent to Kaduna or Abuja, resulting in long waiting periods; now, they can be conducted in Makurdi within two days. The laboratory operates continuously on solar power and backup generators, marking a significant advancement in regional healthcare and promoting medical tourism.
