FG and UK Warn Nigerians of Fake Overseas Job Scams

The Nigerian government, in partnership with the British High Commission, has issued a warning to Nigerians regarding deceptive overseas job offers that often lead to human trafficking. This advisory comes in light of recent trafficking incidents involving Nigerian victims in Thailand, where 23 individuals were rescued through coordinated efforts between NAPTIP and British NGOs.

Gill Lever, the British Deputy High Commissioner in Abuja, emphasized the importance of trauma-informed care for survivors and the need for stronger international cooperation to combat these evolving threats. NAPTIP's representative, Kehind Akomolaf, highlighted survivor testimonies that reveal the brutal realities of trafficking scams, including forced labor and physical abuse.

The United Nations OHCHR reported that at least 120,000 people are currently held in forced scam operations in Myanmar, affecting victims from 66 countries. The event aimed to increase public awareness and hold traffickers accountable.
