B’Haram Founder’s Son Arrested, US, UK Hail Nigeria over Ansaru Leaders’ Capture

The son of Boko Haram's late founder, Mohammed Yusuf, was arrested in Chad, along with five other suspected militants. This arrest was part of a successful security operation by Nigerian and Chadian forces targeting extremist networks in the Lake Chad Basin.

Additionally, two top leaders of the Ansaru terrorist group were captured in Nigeria. The United States and the United Kingdom praised Nigeria for these significant steps in the fight against terrorism.

The arrest of Yusuf, believed to be around 18 years old, was confirmed by Chadian authorities and marked a major breakthrough. The stricter visa requirements unveiled by the US Mission in Nigeria, compelling applicants to disclose their social media history for the past five years, were also highlighted as a security measure to prevent extremist exploitation.

Despite these successes, experts warn that terrorist groups still pose a threat and could regroup for retaliatory attacks.
