Uwazuruike's Non-Violence Strategy for Biafran Independence

On September 13, 2026, Mazi Chris Mocha, the National Director of Information for the Movement for Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), articulated the rationale behind Chief Ralph Uwazuruike's introduction of non-violence and non-exodus methods in the quest for Biafran independence. This approach was adopted to prevent further loss of lives and property among the Ndigbo, particularly in light of the traumatic experiences during the Biafra-Nigeria civil war, which concluded on January 12, 1970.

Mocha recounted that prior to the general elections in April 2003, many MASSOB members residing outside Igboland were anxious about potential relocation due to fears of intimidation. However, Uwazuruike, prioritizing the safety of Ndigbo, advised against such movements, emphasizing that staying in their current locations would minimize risks.

This principle of non-exodus was formulated on September 13, 1999, to ensure that Ndigbo would not face the same dangers as in past crises.
