U.S. State Department Revokes 750 Visas in Birth Tourism Crackdown

The U.S. State Department has launched a global operation to combat birth tourism, resulting in the revocation of more than 750 visas since the task force's inception on August 12, 2026.

State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott stated that this initiative, directed by President Donald Trump, involves collaboration between consular officers, international partners, and law enforcement to identify travel patterns associated with individuals traveling to the U.S. to give birth. This practice allows children to obtain U.S. citizenship at birth, which can later benefit parents in securing immigration status.

Pigott cited specific cases, including a woman who entered the U.S. on a tourist visa under false pretenses, and highlighted advertisements promoting citizenship through healthcare services. The crackdown is part of a broader immigration security agenda under the Trump administration, which aims to address perceived abuses of the legal immigration system.
