Evangelist Apologizes for Alleged Hate Speech on Akwa Ibom State, Controversy Surrounds Crusade Cancellation

Rev. Yinka Yusuf, a popular evangelist and lead pastor of Household of Love Church, issued an apology to the Akwa Ibom state government and people following accusations of hate speech.

The controversy stemmed from the cancellation of a planned crusade in Uyo, where Yusuf alleged that the state government withdrew its approval for the event. In a video released, Yusuf was accused of making derogatory remarks about the people of Akwa Ibom, referring to them as poor and likening them to slaves.

The state government denied the allegations and threatened legal action. Yusuf clarified that his comments were taken out of context and not meant to insult or demean the Akwa Ibom people.

He also explained that the cancellation of the crusade was due to logistical challenges and scheduling conflicts. The incident highlighted tensions between religious leaders and state authorities, sparking a debate on cultural sensitivity and respect.
