Boko Haram Kills Lieutenant Colonel and Six Soldiers in Borno Ambush

Boko Haram militants carried out a deadly ambush in Borno State, Nigeria, killing a newly promoted Lieutenant Colonel identified as Moham and six soldiers. The attack took place in Maiduguri, Damasak, and Mobbar Local Government Area on January 26, 2026.

The Lieutenant Colonel was leading troops when the insurgents launched the assault, using explosives and heavy gunfire. The military confirmed the deaths and reported several soldiers sustaining serious injuries, with the number of missing personnel yet to be determined.

Boko Haram, an offshoot of the Islamic State West Africa Province, has been responsible for numerous attacks, resulting in thousands of deaths and displacing millions in northeastern Nigeria.
