Military Leaders Visit Maiduguri Amid Rising Terror Attacks

On Wednesday, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Army Staff Lt.

Gen. Waidi Shaibu, and the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) arrived at Maiduguri Air Force Base following a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Their visit was prompted by an increase in attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP in the region. Upon arrival, they proceeded directly to the Theatre Command Headquarters of the Joint Task Force North East, where they were received by Major Gen.

Abdulsalam Abubakar and other top military officials. The military leaders held a closed-door meeting and subsequently addressed journalists for four hours.

They also engaged with community leaders, including parents, guardians, traditional union representatives, and student trade unions, urging them to discourage any involvement in terrorism and to protect their children from insurgent activities.
