Boko Haram Abducts 36 Students in Borno School Attack

Boko Haram insurgents attacked Govern Dai Secondary School in Lassa, Askira Uba Local Government Area, Borno State, abducting 36 students during the National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination. The attack occurred on a Monday, resulting in the abduction of 43 individuals, including 41 students and two teachers.

Reports indicate that seven victims regained freedom following rescue operations, which involved military, police, and local vigilante groups. Despite these efforts, the remaining students are still held captive.

The Borno State government confirmed the abduction, which has reignited fears regarding the safety of educational institutions in the region. The attack was characterized by gunmen disguised as soldiers, who opened fire during a market day, causing panic.

This incident follows a recent spate of kidnappings in the area, highlighting the ongoing security challenges posed by Boko Haram and its rival faction, ISWAP.
