Troops Rescue 10 NECO Candidates from Borno Abduction

On Monday, troops operating under the Joint Task Force North East rescued 10 candidates and teachers abducted by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists during an attack on a secondary school in Lassa, Askira Uba Local Government Area, Borno State. The military disclosed that efforts are ongoing to rescue remaining victims and intensify operations to track down fleeing terrorists.

The attack occurred around 9:00 AM while candidates were sitting for their NECO examinations. Captain Moham Goni, a military spokesperson, confirmed that the operation involved ground troops and air assets, which played a crucial role in locating the terrorists.

The military engaged in fierce exchanges of gunfire with the insurgents, resulting in heavy casualties for the attackers and the recovery of seven motorcycles believed to be used by the terrorists. Despite the success of the rescue mission, the incident raised concerns about the safety of schools in the region, which continue to be targeted by insurgents.
