Ndume Commends FG and Zulum as Boko Haram Victims Return Home After Years in Exile

Former Senator Ali Ndume has commended the Federal Government and Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum for the successful repatriation and resettlement of Boko Haram victims who had been living in exile in Cameroon for years. The victims, displaced by the Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgencies, have returned to Gwoza Local Government Area in Borno State following a tripartite agreement involving the governments of Nigeria, Borno State, Cameroon, and support from the UNHCR.

The agreement, signed in Yaoundé in 2017, facilitated the safe and dignified voluntary return of Nigerian refugees who had sought shelter in the Minawao Camp in Cameroon. Ndume highlighted the collaborative efforts between the Federal Government, Governor Zulum, and the UNHCR in fast-tracking the repatriation of thousands of displaced Borno indigenes.

He also praised the restoration of electricity in Gwoza, fulfilling a promise made by Governor Zulum. The repatriation and resettlement efforts have been lauded as a significant milestone in restoring communities devastated by insurgency in Borno State.
