Nigerian Boxers Urged to Excel in Ghana Friendly Match

Wale Edun, the President of the Nigerian Boxing Federation (NBF), has charged Nigerian boxers to uphold the nation's pride and deliver strong performances in the upcoming friendly tournament against Ghana, scheduled for Thursday at the Accra Sports Stadium. During a visit to the national camp in Lagos, Edun emphasized the importance of discipline and representing Nigeria with pride, especially in light of the historical rivalry with Ghana.

He noted that even friendly matches carry significant weight for national representation. The 17-member Nigerian delegation, which includes boxers, coaches, and officials, is scheduled to depart Lagos via Murtala Muhammed International Airport at 7:00 AM ahead of the bout.

This friendly tournament is part of Nigeria's preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, taking place from July 23 to August 2. Babatunde Laguda, Chairman of the NBF Technical Committee, described the fixture as a vital step in preparing the team for international competition, while NBF Vice President Omonlei Imadu confirmed ongoing discussions for additional friendly matches as part of the preparation.
