Boy Child Festival Launches in Abuja to Tackle Issues

The Boy Child Festival took place in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), from May 12 to May 14, 2026. This event, organized by the Boy Child's Life Change Narration Foundation, aimed to address various social issues affecting male children in Nigeria.

The festival featured discussions among students, child rights advocates, educators, parents, and stakeholders from the creative sector, focusing on the struggles and survival of Nigerian boys, including abuse and exploitation. Chinemenma Joyc Nwakanma, the founder of the foundation, emphasized the importance of creating a safe space for boys to be seen, heard, and understood, challenging the societal expectation that boys must suppress their emotions.

Abubakar Yakubu, a representative from the Actor Guild Nigeria (AGN), praised the festival as a timely intervention, highlighting the need for boys to be prepared for future challenges. The event included quiz competitions, counseling sessions, and spoken word presentations, aiming to foster dialogue and understanding around the importance of addressing the needs of boys alongside those of girls.
