BPP Reports N1.1tn Savings, Seeks 2026 Budget Increase

The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), led by Director General Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, announced a savings achievement of N1.1 trillion for the year 2025, attributing this success to various procurement reforms.

During a presentation to the National Assembly regarding the 2026 budget proposal, Adedokun highlighted the need for increased budgetary allocation to improve service delivery and support job creation. The BPP's reforms include proposed amendments to the Public Procurement Act of 2007, the development of an electronic procurement system, and the establishment of a national repository for procurement expertise.

These initiatives aim to enhance efficiency, reduce contract processing times, and ensure value for money in government spending. The BPP also emphasized the importance of compliance monitoring and the need for legislative support from the National Assembly to align procurement practices with global best practices.

The chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Procurement, Olajide Ipinsagba, and the chairman of the House Committee on Public Procurement, Hon. Unyim Idem, expressed their commitment to supporting the bureau's initiatives.
