BPP Advocates Stronger Procurement for National Growth

Dr. Adedokun Adebowale, the Director General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), called for stricter adherence to procurement rules to drive national development during a presentation on Thursday.

He emphasized that public procurement is a significant component of government expenditure and that every procurement decision impacts public trust and service delivery. Adebowale outlined seven pillars for a sustainable procurement system, including transparency, integrity, and digital transformation.

He noted that the BPP saved N1.1 trillion within 11 months through improved efficiency and oversight. He urged collaboration between the public and private sectors and highlighted the importance of prioritizing Nigerian-made goods and services.

Additionally, he stated that 30% of contracts should be allocated to vulnerable groups, including women and youth. Mr.

Fatai Onafowot, Director General of the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency, echoed these sentiments, stressing the need for digital transformation and accountability in procurement practices.
