UNIBEN Student Alexand Shot Dead by Suspected Cultists

On Sunday, a University of Benin part-time student named Alexand was shot dead by suspected cultists outside the Ugbowo campus along Benin-Lagos Road. The attack occurred around 6 PM when gunmen in a white unregistered GLK Mercedes Benz intercepted Alexand's vehicle and opened fire on the driver's side.

Alexand had reportedly finished an exam just an hour earlier. Three other occupants in the vehicle sustained injuries during the attack, and a female passerby was also injured.

All injured victims were rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital for treatment. The Edo State Police Command spokesperson confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation has been ordered by the State Commissioner of Police, Agbonika, to identify the perpetrators and ensure justice.

Preliminary findings suggest a link to cult-related activities outside the campus, and the university management has condemned the violence leading to Alexand's death.
